Months of the Year

The months of the year in Portuguese are:

  • ❄️ janeiro (January)
  • 💝 fevereiro (February)
  • 🌱 março (March)
  • 🌦️ abril (April)
  • 🌷 maio (May)
  • 🌞 junho (June)
  • 🍦 julho (July)
  • 🏖️ agosto (August)
  • 🍁 setembro (September)
  • 🍂 outubro (October)
  • 🍄 novembro (November)
  • 🌨️ dezembro (December)

💡In Portuguese, the months are written in lowercase, unless at the beginning of a sentence.

To say that something occurred ‘in’ a certain month, we use ‘em.’

  • 🏖️ Em agosto vou de férias. (In August I’m going on holiday.)

Other useful prepositions used with the months (and the days of the week) are: ‘desde’ (since), ‘até’ (until), ‘de…a’ (from…to) or ‘de…até’ (from…until) and ‘entre’ (between).

  • Desde dezembro que não chove. (It hasn’t rained since December.)
  • Não há voos diretos até Maio. (There are no direct flights until May.)
  • De julho a setembro não há aulas. (From July to September there are no classes.)
