These terms cover the free DailyNata email and DailyNata Plus, the paid membership on this site. By using either one, you agree to what is written here.

Who we are

DailyNata is registered in the Netherlands. Our KVK number is 91608643 and our VAT number is NL004903224B43.

You can reach us at ola at dailynata dot com or through the help page. That is the address to use for anything in these terms, including cancelling, asking for a refund, or a complaint.

The free email

The Saturday email is free and open to everyone. There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every one, and using it is the only thing you ever have to do to stop them.

DailyNata Plus

Plus is a paid membership. It gives you the full lesson each week, native-speaker audio, the exercises, and the whole archive to read in any order.

It costs €19 a month or €150 a year. Prices include VAT, so the figure you see is the figure you pay. Your billing period starts on the day you join and renews automatically until you cancel.

There is a free trial of 7 days. We collect your card details when you sign up, but nothing is charged until the trial ends. Cancel before then and you are not charged at all.

Paying

Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to them. We never see them and we never store them.

If a payment fails

Cards expire and banks refuse things. When a payment does not go through:

  • Stripe tries twice more over the following days.
  • You will see a notice when you sign in, telling you what happened and how to update your card. We may also email you about it.
  • Your access to Plus may be paused until the payment goes through.
  • If the last attempt also fails, the membership is cancelled.

Nothing is lost by this. If you fix the payment or join again later, your progress and your saved lessons are all still there.

Cancelling

You can cancel yourself, at any time, from your own account page. There is no notice period and nothing to ask us for.

When you cancel, your access carries on until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then stops. It does not renew.

Refunds

  • In your first 14 days: ask us and we will refund you in full, even if you have already read the lessons. This is your right as a consumer and we are not going to make it awkward.
  • During the free trial: cancel before it ends and there is nothing to refund, because nothing was charged.
  • After 14 days: we do not refund the rest of a period part way through. You keep your access until the end of it.
  • If we close DailyNata Plus: we refund the part of your membership you have paid for and not yet had.

Your price

As long as your membership stays active, your price stays the same, even if the price for new members goes up.

The one exception is if we significantly change what Plus includes. If that ever happens we will tell you in advance, in good time, so you can decide whether to carry on or cancel before the change takes effect.

Your account

  • You need to be at least 16 to have an account.
  • A membership is for one person. Please do not share your sign-in link or your account with anyone else.
  • We sign you in with a link sent to your email, so anyone who has that email can get into your account. Keep it to yourself.

The lessons, and what you can do with them

The stories, lessons, exercises, recordings and images on DailyNata are ours. They are for your own learning.

  • You can download the audio and keep it, listen to it offline, and put it on your own phone or music player. That is what the download button is for.
  • Please do not share any of it. That means not passing files on, not uploading them anywhere, not putting them on another website or in a group, and not using them to teach other people.
  • If you want to use something of ours somewhere, just ask. The answer is often yes.

Getting help

The help page is for problems with the website and your account: a lesson that will not open, audio that will not play, a sign-in link that never arrived, a question about your payment. We answer those.

It is not the place for Portuguese questions, such as why a word changes or how a tense works. Those are what the lessons are for, and we cannot answer them one at a time.

When the site is not working

We rely on other companies to run this site: to host it, to store the audio, to send email and to take payments. We do our best to keep everything up, but we cannot promise the site will never be down or never have a fault in it.

If something is broken for more than a short while, tell us. If Plus is unavailable for a long stretch, get in touch and we will put it right.

When we can end a membership

We may end a membership without a refund if the account is shared, or if someone behaves in a way that is abusive or threatening towards us.

If we end your membership for any other reason of our own, we refund the part you have paid for and not yet had.

What we are responsible for

DailyNata teaches a language. We do not promise any particular result, and we are not responsible for decisions you make based on the lessons.

Where we are responsible for something, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before it happened. Nothing here limits anything that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we change something that matters to you, we will tell you before it takes effect, by email or with a notice on the site, so you can cancel first if you would rather not accept it.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands, and Dutch courts can hear any dispute.

If you are a consumer living somewhere else in the EU, this does not take away the consumer protections your own country gives you, and you can bring a case in your own country’s courts if you prefer.
