Demonstrative Pronouns and Determiners

Isto, isso, aquilo, esta(s), este(s), essa(s), esse(s), aquela(s) and aquele(s) are demonstratives. They can be demonstrative pronouns or demonstrative determiners.

Pronouns or Determiners

Demonstrative pronouns (pronomes demonstrativos) point to specific people, animals or things and are used instead of the noun. All the demonstratives can be used as pronouns.

Demonstrative determiners (determinantes demonstrativos) are used before the noun and modify it, providing additional information about its proximity. Isto, isso and aquilo can't be used as determiners.
