Imperfect past subjunctive in if-clauses + imperfect past or conditional
In this video, several people were interviewed about what they would do if they won 130 million euros.
In the footnote you can read ‘Viseenses dão palpites no jogo e no que fariam se lhes saísse o primeiro prémio do Euromilhões.’ ('Viseenses make guesses about the game and what they would do if they won the first prize of the Euromillions.)
Notice how the imperfect past subjunctive is used in the verb ‘sair’ (saísse) which is part of the expression ‘sair o prémio’. In Portuguese, we say the prize ‘comes out’ to someone. Their answers are given in the imperfect past or conditional (I would...).
