Conjunctions
Conjunctions are invariable words (don’t vary in gender or number) such as “and,” “or,” “but,” and “if.” They connect words and clauses (a group of words with a subject and a verb), making the relationship between them coherent. They express different relationships, such as opposition, a cause, or a purpose, to name a few.
In Portuguese, when there are two or more words that, together, behave as a conjunction they are called “locuções conjuncionais” (conjunctive phrases).
For example:
- ⛱️ Venho a esta praia desde que me lembro. (I’ve been coming to this beach for as long as I remember.)
- 🗣️ Fico irritada cada vez que ele fala. (I get annoyed each time that he speaks.)
