Conditional
The Portuguese Conditional tense is used to express actions or events that are dependent on a condition, hypothetical situations or polite requests. It is equivalent to the English 'would + infinitive' or ‘could + infinitive’ structure.
- ⚽️ Se eu gostasse de futebol, iria ver o jogo. (If I liked football, I would watch the game.)
- 🍴 Poderíamos ir a um restaurante indiano. (We could go to an Indian restaurant.)
Both are often replaced by the imperfect past. The sentences above could also be said:
- 🏟️ Se eu gostasse de futebol, ia ver o jogo. (If I liked football, I would watch the game.)
- 🍽️ Podíamos ir a um restaurante indiano. (We could go to an Indian restaurant.)
