Seasons of the Year
The four seasons:
There are four seasons in a year and in Portuguese, they are called:
- 🏵️ Primavera (spring)
- Em Portugal a primavera começa a 20/21 de março. (In Portugal, spring begins on the 20th/21st of March.)
- 😎 Verão (summer)
- ☀️ O verão começa a 20/21 de junho. (Summer begins on the 20th/21st of June.)
- 🍂 Outono (autumn)
- 🍂 Em setembro chega o outono. (Autumn arrives in September.)
- ❄️ Inverno (winter).
- O solstício de inverno marca o início do inverno. (The winter solstice marks the beginning of winter.)
Solstice:
The winter solstice is the day of the year with the shortest daylight period.
- ❄️ No hemisfério norte o solstício de inverno é em dezembro. (In the Northern Hemisphere the summer solstice is in December.)
The summer solstice is the day of the year with the longest daylight.
- ☀️ No hemisfério norte o solstício de verão é em junho. (In the Northern Hemisphere the summer solstice is in June.)
While the winter solstice occurs in one hemisphere, the summer solstice occurs in the other.
Equinox:
The equinox occurs twice a year. During an equinox, the day and night lengths are the same everywhere (12 hours).
In March, it marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Em Portugal, o equinócio da primavera é em Março. (In Portugal the spring equinox is in March.)
- 🍂 No hemisfério norte, o equinócio do outono é em setembro. (In the Northern Hemisphere the autumns equinox is in September.)
