Reflexive Verbs

Many verbs exist in both reflexive and non-reflexive forms, often with slightly different meanings. The main difference lies in the recipient of the action: oneself (reflexive) or something or someone else (non-reflexive).

Reflexive Verbs

Reflexive verbs indicate that the subject of the sentence is acting on itself. These verbs are formed by adding a reflexive pronoun to the verb. The action reflects the subject.

• 🤕 Eu magoei-me. (I hurt myself.)
• 🌞 Ela levanta-se cedo. (She gets up early.)

Non-reflexive Verbs

Non-reflexive verbs indicate that the subject of the sentence is acting on an external object or person. The action is not reflected in the subject.

• 👨🦱 Eu magoei o João. (I hurt João.)
• 🪑 Ela levanta a cadeira. (She lifts the chair.)
