What is the infinitive of a verb?
The infinitive of a verb [also known as impersonal infinitive] is the way it appears in a dictionary, like “andar” (to walk), “ver” (to see), “ouvir” (to hear) and “pôr” (to put).
All the Portuguese infinitives end in –ar, -er, -ir (and -or, present in the verb, "pôr" [to put] and its derivatives). We call this form impersonal infinitive because the verb applies to everybody.
The impersonal infinitive is used for general warnings.
What is the infinitive of a verb?

- Fumar mata (Smoking kills)
