Passive Voice

What is the passive voice?

Voice refers to whether the subject of the sentence performs the action (active voice) or is the receiver of the action (passive voice).

When a sentence is written in the active voice, the subject performs the action:

  • O gato caçou o rato. (The cat hunted the mouse.) ➡ The cat is an active subject.

What is the passive voice?

In the passive voice, we flip the position of these elements and the subject receives the action:
