Two Evil Brothers

Dois irmãos ricos, conhecidos pelas suas ações fraudulentas, escondiam a sua verdadeira natureza, fazendo-se passar por cristãos devotos. Quando um novo padre chegou à sua igreja, não só conseguia ver através da sua fachada, como também falava bem e com sinceridade, o que levou a um crescimento da congregação.A igreja iniciou uma campanha de angariação de fundos para um novo edifício e, na mesma altura, um dos irmãos faleceu. O irmão sobrevivente aproximou-se do novo padre antes do funeral e apresentou um cheque para cobrir os custos restantes do novo edifício."Só tenho uma condição", disse ele. "No seu funeral, tem de dizer que o meu irmão era um santo." O padre deu a sua palavra e depositou o cheque.No dia seguinte, no funeral, o padre não se conteve. "Ele era um homem mau", disse. "Traía a mulher, maltratava a família, enganava os amigos e os pobres..." Depois de ter continuado a falar assim durante algum tempo, concluiu: "Mas, comparado com o irmão, ele era um santo!"

Two wealthy brothers, known for their deceitful actions, concealed their true nature by appearing as devout Christians. When a new priest arrived at their church, not only could he see right through their facade but he also spoke well and truthfully, which led to a growing congregation. The church initiated a fundraising campaign for a new building and at the same time one of the brothers passed away. The surviving brother approached the new priest before the funeral and presented a cheque to cover the remaining cost of the new building."I have only one condition," he said. "At his funeral, you must say my brother was a saint." The priest gave his word and deposited the cheque.The next day at the funeral, the priest did not hold back. "He was an evil man," he said. "He cheated on his wife, abused his family, deceived his friends and the poor..." After continuing in this manner for some time, he concluded with "But, compared to his brother, he was a saint!"
