The word “qualquer” is formed by the words “qual” (which one) and the verb “quer” (want). It has the same form for the masculine and plural nouns but it must change if the noun that follows is plural.
In the formation of the plural, only the first element of the word changes, that is “qual.” The second element of the word, being a verb, remains the same: “quer.”
Words ending in “-l” will have the plural done with “-is,” so the plural of “qual” is “quais.” “Qualquer” becomes “quaisquer” in the plural, and must be used before plural nouns. For example:
