The Digraph 'Nh'
A digraph is a combination of two letters to make one sound.
When ‘h’ is followed by a vowel, it is mute. However, when preceded by L, N, or C it forms the digraphs ‘ch’ as in ‘chuva’ (rain), ‘lh’ as in ‘escolha’ (choice) and ‘nh’ as in ‘dinheiro’ (money).
Understanding these 3 digraphs is essential for mastering pronunciation and spelling in Portuguese, as they represent specific sounds integral to the language's phonetic structure.
